The incoming Archbishop of Canterbury, Sarah Mullally, has been cleared of a safeguarding breach related to her handling of a sexual abuse case in the Diocese of London.

The decision was made by the Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell, who stated that no further action was required against Sarah Mullally.

However, the Church of England has reopened an investigation into the priest at the center of the complaint, the late Father Alan Griffin. Griffin died in November 2020 after experiencing mental distress following allegations made against him.

The allegations against c arose after a survivor complained that she had breached safeguarding procedures by sending an email about the abuse allegations directly to Griffin.

Sarah Mullally, acknowledged that the process had not been handled well but stated that the abuse allegations had been properly addressed by the Diocese of London.
