Bishop David Oyedepo, the founder of Living Faith Church, aka Winners Chapel has bagged an honorary degree from Precious Cornerstone University, Ibadan, Oyo State.

Bishop Oyedepo who bagged a doctorate in Divinity was also joined by Olusegun Obasanjo, former president of Nigeria and Group Managing Director of Sujimoto Group, Sijibomi Ogundele who both also bagged doctorate degrees in Entrepreneurship from the same institution.

Speaking during the occasion, Dr Ogundele praised the University as one founded on the foundations of Entrepreneurship. He also urged all graduating students to become leaders of their generation, as they step into the world as future entrepreneurs.

He said, “A man without a dream is an empty man,” and shared the story of how his beloved mother, diligently imbibed the spirit of entrepreneurship in him from the tender age of 4.

The duo of Bishop Oyedepo and Obasanjo were recognised for their immense contribution to the development of the country, agricultural sector and religion while Ogundele was recognised as one of the outstanding entrepreneurs in Nigeria and a leader in the real estate industry.

Bishop David Oyedepo studied architecture at the Kwara State Polytechnic Ilorin. He also bagged a PhD in Human Development from Honolulu University, Hawaii, US. He worked briefly with the Federal Ministry of Housing in Ilorin before resigning to concentrate on missionary work.

Bishop Oyedepo was born again in 1969, through the influence of his teacher, Betty Lasher, who took an interest in him during his high school days.

According to him, he received a mandate from God through an 18-hour vision in May 1981, to liberate the world from all oppression of the devil through the preaching of the word of faith.

This inaugural vision led to the founding of the Living Faith Church World Wide (LFCWW), first called Liberation Faith Hour Ministries, in 1981.

Two years later, on September 17, 1983, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, ordained Bishop David and his wife, Florence Abiola Akano (known as Faith Abiola Oyedepo) to become pastors and officially commissioned the new church. Five years later, he was ordained as Bishop.
