As he approaches his 80th birthday on September 6, 2025, Bishop Mike Okonkwo, the Presiding Bishop of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM), is marking this special day with a series of initiatives aimed at giving back to the community.

In partnership with the Eye Foundation Hospital, Bishop Mike Okonkwo launched a free cataract screening and surgery program for over 500 Nigerians suffering from vision impairment. The outreach, held at TREM’s headquarters in Anthony Village, Lagos, welcomed participants from all walks of life, regardless of religion or background.

Surgeries are being conducted at the Eye Foundation Hospital in Ikorodu, to restore sight and improve quality of life for underserved individuals.

A major highlight of the celebrations will be the 2025 Mike Okonkwo Annual Lecture, scheduled for September 4 at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island. Former Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo will deliver the keynote address, while retired Major-General Ike Nwachukwu will serve as chairman of the event.

The 20th edition of the Mike Okonkwo Football Tournament is also underway, featuring 36 male and 8 female teams. The championship, which began on June 14, will culminate in a final match at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex on August 30.
