Ancient Music Returns to Alnmouth Abbey After Centuries
By Church News
After nearly five centuries, music will once again be heard through the stone walls of Alnmouth Abbey this August.
A special evening concert will revive the ancient music that once accompanied daily prayer in the Benedictine community before its closure during the Reformation.
Organized by local historians and musicians, the event will feature carefully reconstructed music from medieval manuscripts, performed by a small vocal group.
“This evening is not just about music,” said Dr. Eleanor Wright, a researcher involved in the project. “It’s about reconnecting with a part of the Abbey’s past that hasn’t been heard in generations.”
