Alice Cooper’s Journey to Faith

Alice Cooper’s Journey to Faith

By Church News

Alice Cooper, also known as the “Godfather of Shock Rock,” has revealed a personal transformation about his return to faith in Jesus Christ.

Known for theatrical performances and dark stage personas, Cooper, born Vincent Damon Furnier, grew up in a devout Christian household. His father and grandfather were pastors, and he spent much of his youth immersed in church life. But fame, fortune, and the rock-and-roll lifestyle led him astray.

In the 1980s, Alice Cooper battled severe alcoholism and drug addiction, nearly losing his marriage and his life.

“I came to Christ because of my fear of God,” Cooper admitted in a recent interview. “Hell was not getting high with Jim Morrison, it was the worst place ever. That fear brought me back to the Lord”.

After a terrifying hallucination and a near-death experience, Cooper flushed his drugs and began a journey towards being sober. His wife, Sheryl Goddard, a devout Christian, played an important role in his recovery. The couple reconciled and recommitted to their faith, raising their children in a Christian home.

Alice Cooper acknowledges God for using his struggles to shape his testimony: “I have no idea why you let me live, except for this fact that I can talk about it now, and I can give Him all the credit.”

Cooper describes Jesus as “the core of everything” and “life itself”. He continues to perform as Alice Cooper but now sees his platform as a way to share his faith. His nonprofit, Solid Rock Teen Centers, offers faith-based support and creative outlets for young people in need. “I don’t do Christian rock, but I’m a Christian who does rock,” Cooper said. “My lifestyle is now my testimony”.
