Al Pacino met with Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican on June 16. The 85-year-old actor was joined by Italian producer Andrea Iervolino, with whom he is currently working on Maserati: The Brothers, a film about the origins of the iconic Italian car brand.
The meeting, which was not formally announced by the Vatican, was described by Iervolino as “a moment of profound spiritual and cultural inspiration.” He added, “We presented the Pope with a model Maserati car, as a symbol of the values we hope to reflect in the film, family, unity, and compassion.”
Al Pacino, who was reportedly meeting a Pope for the first time, offered the pontiff a book and a cap from his hometown. “He was very excited and very happy,” Iervolino told People magazine. “The Pope didn’t say anything specific, but he blessed our film, which meant a lot to us”.
