Abductors release Catholic priest after ransom payment

Kidnappers have released parish priest of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, Rev. father Mark Chimezie Godfrey.Fr. Godfrey was released after 10 days with his abductors.He was seized and taken away on October 13 shortly after conducting Mass.An undetermined sum of ransom money was reportedly paid before the clergy set free.In a statement by His Lordship, Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, Bishop of Umuahia Catholic Diocese, on Saturday, the church thanked God immensely “for answering our prayers and facilitating his return to us unhurt.“I take advantage of this opportunity to express our deep gratitude to all Bishops, priests, Consecrated men and women and all Christ’s faithful who assisted us with prayers during the difficult and trying period of his captivity.”READ ALSO: Gunmen attack worshippers in Ogun church, kidnap three
