A Thousand Year Old Bible Found in Turkey

Police in Turkey successfully found and recovered a Bible. The ancient Bible is believed to be about a thousand years old.The Holy Bible which was found In the Central Turkish city of Tokat, is written in the old Assyrian language.The priceless book was recovered after some smugglers tried to sell it to the undercover officers.The Anatolian heartland is home to numerous holy sites revered by Christians and Turkish authorities have recently been clamping down on the attempted smuggling of ancient artifacts.The gang of smugglers have been charged with smuggling antiquities, illegal excavation, and possession of explosives.The origin of the Bible is not known but it is written in the old Assyrian language, its cover is repeatedly damaged, but its remaining 51 pages have images and religious motifs in gold leaf.The book contains pictures of Jesus Christ and other biblical figures, the bible was recovered during a series of police operations.Reports from the Turkish newspaper, Hurriyet, said that the authority sent the police officers to move after being informed that three suspects were marketing historical artefacts and an operation was launched against the house where the three suspects lived.According to Hurriyet, four operations were reportedly launched in the centre of Tokat and the nearby Turhal district and ten people were taken into police custody.Other valuable items including jewellery and ancient coins were also said to have been recovered, while the Bible was delivered to a museum.The manuscript carries excerpts of the Bible written in gold lettering on leather with lines of Syriac script in Aramaic dialect.The ancient Bible is being transferred to the Ankaran Ethnography Museum in Turkey with a police escort. Turkish Authority expresses the Bible as a cultural asset and should be protected.It’s hoped that the ancient book will provide rare insights into the way Christianity developed in past centuries.ALSO READ: Tolulope Soyemi Releases Latest Single
