By Bede

In the last post, I shared some insightful methods by which we can learn to hear God’s voice particularly in times of distress. Moreover, in times when God seems afar off you will need some voice recognition techniques. Read further to learn more

How to know the voice of God

Something is very clear about a voice. In the book of John 10:27, Jesus talked about voice recognition. He said: “my sheep hear my voice.’ Whenever you hear the voice of a friend or family member, you recognize instantly who is speaking. However, God’s voice may not always be thunderous. It may come as a soft whisper flowing into your mind and spirit.

Consequently, there must be a time of separation from all the noises in our busy world. Then it is a time to hear the still small voice from God as described in Psalm 37 verse 7 and Psalm 46 verse 10.

Having talked about recognizing the voice of God, let’s go further to determine how else we can hear God’s voice.

3. You can hear God’s voice through events and happenings

There are opportunities in events or something happening in our environment that will serve as a message from God. In Judges 6:36-40, Gideon asked for a sign from the Lord to know if God will save Israel through his hand. Apart from this, he used a fleece of wool. In verse 40 of the same chapter, God did as he asked. He then presented those signs to him as a confirmation of his word.

4. God can choose to speak through people

The Bible encourages Christians to connect with other Christians. Proverbs 11 verse 14 reads: “Where there is no counsel, the people fall but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.” When you gave regard to those in authority, God can open your mind to what He is saying through the leaders appointed by the church.

Other ways of Hearing God Speak

  • There is the voice of conscience, the Inward voice of the human spirit. Romans 2:15
  • God speaks through the people around you

The way God spoke to Moses was different from the way he spoke to Joshua. Moreover, you need to learn and practice hearing God speak. Also, cultivate the habit of listening with your heart.  It is His voice  that brings the greatest assurance of His love for us His creation.
