Learning to Hear God’s Voice in Difficult times (1)
By Bede
A lot of people claim to hear God speak to them. What does it feel like when you hear people say they can hear God’s voice, but find it difficult to experience this?
The fact is that God might actually be speaking to you all the time. The challenge is simply in knowing when it is God speaking. It is in learning to hear God’s voice.
Inability to recognize the voice of God is a very common issue today. In the book of John chapter 12 verse 28-29, the multitude who stood with Jesus when God spoke to him heard the voice of God. They said it had “thundered”. Similarly, others said he must have been spoken to by an angel. This should be a good way to have convinced them that God speaks if they had earlier entertained doubt.
How does God Speak
1. Through Jesus
God can speak in diverse ways and through different people. Importantly, He communicated through His son Jesus. (Hebrews 1:12) In like manner, God can correspond with you and give you messages when you study the life of Jesus. This includes a study of how he related with people and how he comported himself.
Similarly, the way He went about doing things and the words He spoke are all clear means by which God speaks. The book of Hebrews chapter 1 and verse 3 makes us to understand the nature of God. Jesus was referred to here as “the exact expression of his nature.”
Indeed the Bible is the word of God in written form and Jesus also is the living word. The words that God will speak will never negate His word. Furthermore, in Psalm 119 verse 105 the word of God is described as: “a lamp to my feet and a light for my path”. This points to the ability of the word to give direction.
Even so, living a life of consistent and organised Bible study will open you to the leading of the Holy spirit. The Holy spirit will guide you to a verse, chapter or a whole book in the Bible that speaks to your situation.
2. Through dreams and divine visions
In addition, God can also speak through your dreams and heavenly inspired visions. There are countless examples in the Bible of God speaking in this manner to people.
What is a vision?
It can be likened to pictures you see while you are awake. The opposite are dreams. They are images you see while sleeping. Without a doubt, a dream or vision usually has insightful effects on the dreamer. In addition, details are often remembered even many years after. This is not just a natural dream where talks and events of the day are processed by the mind. It is much more than that.
Again, we have many voices that speak. Next, we are going to learn how to recognize the voice of God. For more understanding on this all-encompassing topic let’s see another aspect
